Simple Altered Notebook & Pencil Box

 Hi everyone,

I hope you all are doing well. Today I have a fun project using the items from the May Card, Tag and More Kit by Tres Jolie. This project is a super easy simple altered notebook and pencil box. This is a great gift idea for friends, family, co-workers  or for yourself.

Here is the link to the video tutorial and down below I a step by step that will share some of the details you will do to create this project.

May Card, Tag and More Kit

We are altering a small notebook that measures 4 3/4 x 7. So I cut my cardstock from the card kit at starting at 4 3/4 x 7, 41/2 x 6 3/4, 4 1/4 x 6 1/2, 3 7/8 x 6 1/8 inches.

Next adhere the larger cardstock piece to the cover of the front and back.

Next cut a piece of pattern paper at 2 1/2 x 7 this will cover the spine. Adhere to the spine after you adhere the large piece of card stock on the front and back.

Layer and adhere all the pieces together and adhere to the front and back of your notebook.

Next cut a piece of cardstock at 3 1/2 x 5 3/4 inches. Score 1/2 inch on the right, left and bottom. This is going to be cut into 2 angles for pockets.

Next fold over the score lines and burnish, then cut the bottom corners where the score lines intersect. Fold the piece in half

Cut the little pocket and then cut both pieces at an angle as shown below.

Here I have covered my inside cover with pink cardstock from the kit and adhere the small angled pocket we created.

Next cover and decorate your inside cover front and back cover.

To create a pocket in the middle of notebook, I cut 2 pieces at  4 3/4 x 7 and 2 pattern papers at
4 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches. Adhere the pattern paper onto the larger piece of cardstock. Find the middle of the notebook and adhere the first layered piece to one of the notebook papers and do the same of the other layered piece. This will create a pocket as shown below.

This is what your pocket should look like once you adhere the layered pieces to the sheet of notebook paper.

Here is how I decorated the front using the beautiful chipboard honeycomb pieces along with the golden roses, plus I added the flower dies from the Flower Cluster Builder die that comes in the kit.

Pencil Box
Pencil Holder (Box) - Cut 1 piece of cardstock at 9 3/4 x 3 inches Score at 1/2 and 1 inches
on all four sides.
Pencil Cover - Cut 1 piece of cardstock at 4 1/2 x 7 3/4 inches, Score at 1, 1 1/2, 2 5/8, 3 1/8 inches.

Pencil Cover  - fold the score lines and adhere the end of the cover to the other side of the fold. This is the cover that slides onto the box.

Pencil Holder (Box)
Below is a photo of the areas you need to cut off that are marked with an "X". Do this on each end.

Next cut the two ends (shown below) to create little tabs.

Place glue or adhesive in the midsection of the score lines and fold over each scored area.

Here is what your finished box should look like.

Place your pens or pencils inside and slide the cover over.

Here is the finished box. I decorated with the cute flower dies that are inside the Card Kit. I just love these little flowers, they are so dainty. I used a white gel pen in create the little lines on the flowers and leaves.

Here are both finished projects. They turned out so pretty. I just love them. This kit has everything you need to create cards, tags, boxes, a small journal and much more.

I hope you enjoyed today's step by step tutorial. For more details you can always view the video tutorial process, which is at the top of the page.
