If you love whimsical glam with shabby chic or vintage aesthetic you are going to love this project. First we are going to paint the chipboard frame with black paint or gesso. I used black gesso. Set aside to dry.

Next we are going to cover the canvas with one of the design papers from the 2026 June Scrapbook Kit. I chose this beautiful lavender one with dresses on it. Place adhesive down on the top portion of the canvas first, adhere the paper, and burnish down. Then do the bottom half of the canvas and burnish down.

Next tape down you stencil where you would like the flowers.

Next I took both Solar Pastes from the 2026 June Mixed Media Kit and added some re-inker ink to each one, the royal flush and the deep end. (View Video Tutorial for more details)

Next use either a sponge or dauber to apply the solar paste to each flower.
For the leaves I used a green ink pad and for the swirls I used vintage photo distress ink.

Here is the finished stencil.

After the chipboard frame dries I added the Solar Paste Royal Flush to the the frame. You can apply with dauber, finger or paint brush. I used a dauber and fingers. Use a toothpick to get the paste out of the opened areas for a clean look to the frame.

Next adhere the frame over your stenciled flowers and start decorating your canvas. I also applied Solar Paste Royal Flush to the dress, bow on the top of the frame and a few other areas around the canvas.

Here's a close up on the dress I added Solar Paste Royal Flush to the dress and
then added gold stickels.

Whether you are a seasoned mixed media artist or just getting started with paper crafting, I hope this project inspires you to look at your scrap papers and embellishments in a whole new way. Vintage Hummingbird Canvas for Tres Jolie

Happy Thursday Everyone,

In today's tutorial, we are creating a beautiful, vintage-inspired mixed media canvas featuring shimmering hummingbirds, 3D floral elements, and distressed paper techniques using the March 2026 Mixed Media Kit. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned mixed media artist, this project is perfect for practicing layering and building dimension. In this step by step tutorial and video tutorial you'll learn:

  • How to create a burnt edge distressed paper effect
  • Techniques for layering 3D paper flowers and metallic accents.
  • Tips for working with glitter and shimmer on a textured background.
  • How to balance heavy embellishments on a small canvas.

Below I have the video tutorial for you. In addition to using the 2026 March Mixed Media Kit I also brought in some items from the 2026 March Scrapbook Kit and Card Kit I have the links below for your convenience.

2026 March Card, Tag and More Kit

To start off we are going to take one of the images from the
March Mixed Media Kit and tear around it.

Next take what ever ink you would like to use and ink the edges all around.
I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink.

Next take the brown powder from the 2026 March Mixed Media Kit and
mix with some water.
I used a large sponge painting applicator to paint all over the canvas and the sides as well.

Once your done painting the canvas adhere the image on the canvas and
then add a coat of clear gesso.

After the gesso dries I used the green, yellow paints from the March Mixed Media Kit
along with a pink powder paint from Paint Couture (pink sapphire), it's from the 2026 February Mixed Media Kit (still available).

Next I started adding embellishments. I used flowers and the paper sentiment that is listed down below by the hummingbirds from the March Scrapbook Kit, then added the metal sentiment that is on top of the little black chipboard piece from the March Card Kit.
I took the large chipboard piece and painted it with black gesso but your can use black paint, too. I then used art stones that are from a previous Mixed Media Kit, which is no longer available. But you can use gold flakes or prills, you can always use your stash and be creative with what you have on hand.

Here is the finished canvas I painted the art stones using the same brown powdered paint we use to paint the canvas and the large chipboard piece names "Split Mandala 2" I used the bottom half of this beautiful chipboard piece.

I hope you found some inspiration from today's project. This canvas so fun to create and definitely gives you a chance to use your creativity and put your own style and twist on it. I really enjoyed painting the images, which is something I don't usually get to do, but I liked getting out of my comfort zone. I hope you try this project and don't forget to share it with us on our Facebook page.
