Today we are using the 2026 August Mixed Media Kit which features fun modeling clay with using a texture maker mat to design your clay. I walk you step by step on how to use all the items inside the kit. After we finish preparing the clay we decorate each canvas with delicate heart, dried bouquet jar ephemera, and painted chipboard pieces. In addition to the embellishments we add we will apply metallic paint and some perfect pearl powders to the raised clay texture.
To begin grab half or about 3/4 of the modeling clay from your bag and knead it in your hand for a bit, then roll out until it's large enough to place the texture mat on top, as shown below. spray a bit of water on top of the clay before placing the texture mat on top of the clay. Lay down the mat and roll it down into the clay until you feel the pattern is set on top of the clay.
*****View video for more details*****
Once your done gently lift one end and pull off gently. The water will help pull off the mat.
Here is the pattern we created. Don't worry about the water you can gently pat with a paper towel.
Next get adhesive, I used mod podge, apply to the top of your canvas.
Place the textured clay on top of the canvas and gently pat down to adhere to the canvas. After you place down the clay, check for any excess clay hanging over and cut away.

Follow the same steps for creating the second canvas.
After your clay dries a bit, you can use perfect pearls, paints or distress inks to color up your clay background. I used distress stain antique bronze, perfect pearls cappuccino, lindy's
gang glitzy magical gleaming gold.

I used the same inks and powders for the yellow mat as well.
Next I used some of the ephemera pieces fussy cut from the 2026 August Scrapbook Kit. I also used the resin piece as well painted with the distress stain and then wiped off to create a weathered look.

For the yellow piece, adhere the clay textured mat on top of the canvas with adhesive. I also used some paints from previous kits to paint the chipboard pieces. Adhered down on top of the textured mat.

(I also added some ephemera from last months Scrapbook Kit).

Let's keep Curating Memories together. ~Deb
To begin fill the water brush with water and then spray a bit of water into the pan of water colors. As you dip your brush in the paint you can press water out into the watercolor you are using. Once you pick up the color onto the brush apply it down to the watercolor paper from the Mixed Media Kit. I cut this sheet into a A2 card (4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches). I applied the paint down in a wave like pattern and continued down the front of the card with each color laying one color down and applying the next color a little bit on the very edge of that color so they would slightly mix.
****View Video Tutorial for more details****
Below is what the front of the card looks like when finished. I love these metallic watercolors, they are so shimmery.
To decorate this card I brought in some ephemera from the June 2026 Scrapbook Kit. I thought the beautiful lavender colors went perfectly with these metallic colors.
Next for our first book. I cut the remaining watercolor cardstock into pieces measuring around 2 1/2 x 5 inches.
I used a small stencil placed on top of the watercolor paper. for this fun technique.
Get a paint brush and dip it in the watercolor paint of your choice and apply it on top of the stencil. I did the gradient colors using dark purple first and then ended with the light pink on the bottom of this bookmark.
****View Video Tutorial for more details****
After you finish applying the watercolor leave the stencil on the paper and wait for a while for it to dry. Pull off the stencil and you have a fun patterned watercolor background.
Here is the finished bookmark decorated. I used the ephemera from the 2026 June Scrapbook kit.
For the 2nd bookmark I'm creating I used the same stencil but this time for this technique we are using the ink brushed to brush on the watercolor paint. Add very small dab of water to the watercolor paint place your bristled ink blending brush in the paint and then apply in a circular motion. I started with dark pink and then went to the lightest pink and added the lightest purples at the end.
****View Video Tutorial for more details****
With this technique you don't have to wait for drying time. Simply pull off the stencil and you have your finished background. The one thing I like about this background is it's clean and no watercolor seeped through.
****View Video Tutorial for more details****
For this bookmark I used the ephemera from the July 2026 Scrapbook Kit. I love the vintage feel of the ephemera pieces for this bookmark and adding the books are a fantastic touch.
For the 3rd bookmark I just added the watercolor paints all over not really following any type of guide, just added the paint where ever I wanted. You can either let it dry for a while or dry with a heat tool.
Next I laid down one of the stencil from my stash on top of the dried piece we just painted and applied the Chocolate Stencil Butter on top.
Here is the finished look of the bookmark after pulling off the stencil. I really like the brown on top of the metallic watercolors it really makes them pop.
The ephemera on this bookmark comes from July 2026 Scrapbook Kit. I couldn't resist using another of the vintage books, the pen and clock.
I hope you enjoyed today's tutorial, I had fun with using the metallic watercolors and sharing the new techniques you can use to create wonderful and fun backgrounds using the stencils you have in your stash or just applying the watercolor down to create your own background on cards, tags, bookmarks or canvases. Whether you want to make these as a gift set or add them to your junk journals, this tutorial is packed with tips for you to use again and again.

2026 June Scrapbook Kit 2026 June Mixed Media Kit
First we are going to paint the chipboard frame with black paint or gesso. I used black gesso. Set aside to dry.
Next we are going to cover the canvas with one of the design papers from the 2026 June Scrapbook Kit. I chose this beautiful lavender one with dresses on it. Place adhesive down on the top portion of the canvas first, adhere the paper, and burnish down. Then do the bottom half of the canvas and burnish down.
Next tape down you stencil where you would like the flowers.
Next I took both Solar Pastes from the 2026 June Mixed Media Kit and added some re-inker ink to each one, the royal flush and the deep end. (View Video Tutorial for more details)
Next use either a sponge or dauber to apply the solar paste to each flower.
For the leaves I used a green ink pad and for the swirls I used vintage photo distress ink.
Here is the finished stencil.
After the chipboard frame dries I added the Solar Paste Royal Flush to the the frame. You can apply with dauber, finger or paint brush. I used a dauber and fingers. Use a toothpick to get the paste out of the opened areas for a clean look to the frame.
Next adhere the frame over your stenciled flowers and start decorating your canvas. I also applied Solar Paste Royal Flush to the dress, bow on the top of the frame and a few other areas around the canvas.
Here's a close up on the dress I added Solar Paste Royal Flush to the dress and
then added gold stickels.
Close up of layering the 49 and Market ephemera from the Scrapbook Kit.
Close up of the flowers with gold stickels applied in the middle and I added gold prills (from my stash) throughout the canvas.

Lay the paper down and burnish, then add remaining glue down to the lower half of the base and burnish down the remaining pattern paper. ******View Video Tutorial for more details********
Once you have adhered your pattern paper down use a stencil to create a pattern honeycomb look if you'd like.
******View Video Tutorial for more details********
Next take the chipboard honeycombs from the 2026May Card Kit and spray lightly with the Stamperia Mixed Media Color Leather.
While the chipboard honeycomb dries, take the lid off of the Aquamarine Spray and tap the stick with a pencil to create splatters on the paper. Tap very lightly.
Next I inked the printer's tray frame with Walnut Stain Distressed Ink.
For one of the decorations I took the metal spoons and poured some glue inside of the spoon and then added some small dried flowers inside. I then took of the film from the clear lid from the front and back and placed the clear seal on top. ******View Video Tutorial for more details********
Here is what the spoon looks like after I finished added the clear seal on top.
Here is the finished Printer's Tray. Here I decorated each of the window panes using some of the items from the 2026 May Card Kit from Tres Jolie.
Here is a close up of the chipboard honeycomb we sprayed using the Stamperia Mixed Media Aqua Color. Below is the brass spoon I placed some dried flowers inside with glue. The little bee, is a clay bee I created from my stash. The above window I fussy cut a little honey bottle from the paper.
Here is another little honey bottle I fussy cut out from the paper collection and using the 49 and Market laser cuts. The window below I adhered down a large flower and then I adhered down the metal clock and adhered a small flower on top of the clock. I used the pretty yellow leaves around the flower.
Here are a few window panes that are decorated.
Below I have a butterfly with a little tea cup and flower. I also had adhered down a little caterpillar to the edge of the windows.
Here is the spoon below I also placed the glue inside with dried flowers and sealed. I also added a little butterfly in the next pane sitting on a leaf.
The next few window panes I used some foam tape to lift up flowers and butterflies to create a 3D effect.
I hope you found some inspiration from today's project. With this 2026 May Mixed Media Kit for we transformed a simple Printer's Tray with multi-compartments into a stunning dimensional piece of wall art perfect for any cottage-core or rustic themed room.
