Mixed Media Sunny Butterfly Art Journal Page for Tres Jolie

 Hi everyone,

I'm back today with a fun mixed media project. We will be using the 2025 October Mixed Media Kit along with the 2025 October Scrapbook Kit. This is a fun little project that is easy and let's you explore how to get creative with your mixed media kits while adding some other elements from other kits or your stash. I have the step by step tutorial below, as well as the video tutorial. Links to what I used are also below for your convenience.

2025 October Mixed Media Kit                             2025 October Scrapbook Kit

To get started you can use your art journal or you can use a small canvas. You will need a sheet of mixed media paper for the Sunny Butterfly Stencil we will be using.

First you will cut your wooden plank paper from the Mixed Media Kit in the measurement you need to cover your area, as I am using my art journal so my wooden plank paper is cut at 8 1/2 x 11 inches.  After you cut your paper place the paper in some water for about 10-15 seconds per the instructions on the back of the package. You can either follow the directions of this tutorial which is different for adhering down the wooden plank paper.

Once you take the paper out of the water remove the white backing, set paper on top of the art journal page or your canvas, pat down with a paper towel and let dry for a bit. leaving the clear piece on top until it dries.

Once dried turn over and add adhesive to the back. I used 3D Gloss Gel from a previous kit. Spread glue adhesive all over the back.

Next turn over and adhere down, burnish down. The clear piece can now be taken off once burnished down. Next place some clear or white Gesso on top as the top of the paper will be sticky.

Next on a sheet of art journal paper (mixed Media paper) grab your stencil and place in the middle. Grab your modeling paste and inks your would like to use on your Sunny Butterfly Stencil. I used the Radiant, Intense, and Scorch Alcohol Inks mixed in with the modeling paste.  Spread across the stencil.

Below is the Scorch alcohol ink.

In the middle I used the radiant alcohol ink.

Once done spreading the modeling paste lift off the stencil. and trace the butterfly with a pencil or pen. Then go over it with a black marker making a thick line for cutting out.

I used the beautiful trellis chipboard piece from the October Scrapbook Kit. I used the alcohol inks to color all through the lines. (view video tutorial for more details)

Here is the finished Art Journal Page. I also incorporated some of the leaf stickers and words from the October Scrapbook Kit. I fussy cut out the little sleeping fox  and added the word "Splendor". The green crystals are colored with the Elixir alcohol ink on the bottom and used around the butterfly. These little flat crystals are from previous kit.

I hope you enjoyed today's step by step tutorial, stop by to take a view at the video tutorial as well. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this Sunny Butterfly Art Journal page and I hope you received some inspiration to give Mixed Media a try or follow along with my tutorial. Thanks for joining me.

Today Is The Day, Enjoy Magic Moments

 Hi everyone,

Today is my last project for the month of May using the May 2025 Kits for this month. For this project I used the Scrapbook Kit along with the Mixed Media Kit using a few chipboard pieces from the Tres Jolie Shop Butterfly chipboard, Large Tag, Ivy Leaves, Circle Words, and the Mini Flower Border. All of these are available in the Tres Jolie Shop. As always I have the step by step tutorial below as well as the video tutorial. Below I have the Links throughout the tutorial.

May 2025 Scrapbook Kit                                           May 2025 Mixed Media Kit

To begin out project you will want to gesso your art journal page or canvas.

After the gesso is applied and dried you can sprinkle the alcohol ink on the page and then add on the your alcohol ink blending solution or you can also use isopropyl alcohol to blend your inks around.
I used the isopropyl alcohol on my journal page.

To mixed my alcohol inks I used my heat gun. Then applied the inks again and repeated the same steps until I reached the look I wanted on the journal page.

After I have the journal the way I wanted I took a paper towel and blotted the ink.

Once the page is dried I used a stencil and mixed modeling paste with the Intense alcohol ink.
Let this dry.

While the page is drying you can paint or color the chipboard pieces.
For this Vine chipboard piece I used the alcohol inks right on top of the chipboard pieces, these pieces are not applied with gesso. I used a brown marker to color in the vine part.
*****For more details you can refer to the video tutorial*****

I have close up photos of the page once its done.
This picture is of the lower left side. I covered the large chipboard tag with scrapbook paper and used the mini flower boarder along with the chipboard circle word "today". The Ivy is leaning on the large tag but is actually adhered to the flowers inside the large frame.

For this large frame that is on the lower right hand side of the page. From the Scrapbook Kit I fussy cut out the rose and added foam tape behind it so it pops out of the frame.

This photo is the upper left side of the page. I used pattern paper behind the small frame and used some flowers from the Scrapbook Kit. I also used a small circle frame to have focal point of the flower placing some glossy accents on top.

This photo is a close up of the right upper page. For this part I used a chipboard butterfly colored in with the scorch alcohol ink and brown marker. I used some art stones that were covered with the intense alcohol inks. For my sentiment I used this from my stash from the January Mixed Media Kit.

Here is a photo of the full page all finished.

I hope you enjoyed today's step by step tutorial and are inspired to create a journal page or canvas using this tutorial and some of the techniques I shared with you. I really enjoy creating the monthly art journal page using the Tres Jolie Kits.

As always I have some step by step tutorial below, but for more details please refer to the video tutorial.

January 2025 Mixed Media Kit                                         January 2025 Scrapbook Ki

Today we are going to create a mixed media journal page.
To start I placed some white gesso on top of the page and spread this using the paint brush from the Mixed Media Kit.

After the white gesso dries, To start I added in white gesso to the acrylic violet paint by Finnabair and the Lindy's Gang Magical foxglove fuchsia, you'll want to mix, as shown below. Next I scrunched up a napkin, then dipped it in the purple and pounced the paint around the edge of the page. Next I used the Lindy's Gang Magical foxglove fuchsia and pounced it underneath the violet paint.

Next I used the background chipboard Brick Wall Panel and used the Glamour Gel and painted it all over the chipboard. Set aside to dry.

I did use black gesso along with the Finnabair manuscript stencil in a few areas on the page. I set aside to dry while I painted my chipboard pieces. Next I painted the (nature) flower chipboard piece with the brown Glamour Gel and applied lilac and violet gelatos on the flower petals.
Once the black gesso dried I cut the brick wall chipboard piece and used the 3D Gloss Gel to adhere to the art journal page.

Here are some photos of the finished art journal page. I really like how this turned out. I also added some glizy gold throughout the page. We used the flowers from the Scrapbook kit and I fussy cut out the butterflies and the kitten on the stack of books from the Scrapbook paper.
I also added some art stones and topped them off with some gold spritz, and I did black and white splatters to finish off the page.

Here are a few close ups of the page.

Here is a close up of the Brick Wall Chipboard. I just the speckles of gold with in the paint.

Creating the mixed media art journal page was so fun and combining the paints and placing the gold lines to create a marbling look makes it look so pretty with the pink and purple colors.
I like how the black stenciled words stick out amongst the bright colored flowers. The sentiment is from the sentiment booklet that comes in the Mix Media Kit.

I hope you enjoyed today's step by step tutorial. For more details you can view the video tutorial.
