Today we have a fun Journal we're going to create using the 2026 January Card, Tag and More Kit. This kit has a journal stencil that is simple to use, you are going to like creating many journals with this simple kit. I have the step by step below and the video tutorial for you with all the details.
You will two pieces of 12x12 card stock. To begin take the journal stencil and place on a 12x12 piece of card stock.
Trace or use a bonefolder or stylus to go around the outer edge of the stencil and score the middle of the stencil to create your spine as shown below, I also made the two dots to indicate where you will place your brads or if you want to sew your journal together. Then cut around the area your tranced. You can also round your corners. ****For more details view the Video Process****
Next place the stencil on top of the next 12x12 card stock. Below I am using a stylus to score around the stencil, scoring the first inside line around the left and right sides as this will create your pages. ****For more details view the Video Process****
After you score around the page, cut the page out. Fold both on the score lines and place the pages inside the journal cover. Glue the spines together.
Here are the extra flaps created from the scraps. You can view the video process to see where I placed mine. ****For more details view the Video Process****
These flaps have a 1/2 inch score line for adhering down onto the spine or pages.
Get one of the scrap pieces of paper and place the pocket stencil, the closure belt and buckle and trace each one. Once you traced around pocket, score the inner lines on the left, right and bottom. Then cut each item.
Next use the stencil to trace around the second line, this will create the mats for the inside and outside of the journal cover and pages.
For the belt cut it in half and place one half on the score board and score lines
every 1/4 inches to 1 1/2 inches. Then fold in all the score lines. This will help the paper bend and become more pliable when creating the closure.
Adhere the belt to the back of the cover before covering with paper and adhere the the buckle on the front. Please view the video tutorial for more details as I add foam tape to back of the buckle to have it more secure for the belt closure.
Below I have photos for you that show some of the finished pages with the flaps, pockets and other elements we added throughout the journal.
Below is the front of the journal. Decorated with some of the small tags, a small pocket that holds a book and lady that I fussy cut from one of the cut apart pages.
Here is one of the flaps that hold tags and a pocket from the paper collection.
Below is the long pocket we traced from the template and cut. I added a little booklet inside the pocket by using the 4x4 cut apart cards and making them into a booklet.
I added a place for a photo or a journaling spot
These little envelopes are so adorable I couldn't leave them out. So I added them together on a page. I also placed the small 2x2 cut apart cards inside with the small tags from the paper collection.
Each page is so unique and has so many different embellished pages. Remember to view the video tutorial for more ideas.
