Hi everyone,
Whether you’re a seasoned mixed media artist or just starting your creative journey, this step-by-step guide will show you how to layer with confidence and find beauty in the "perfectly imperfect." Bring your outdoors in! Join me as I walk you through the process of creating a lush, botanical-inspired mixed media canvas. We are playing with organic shapes, floral elements, ad a rich palette of earthy tones to celebrate the beauty of nature.
Grab your favorite stencils and some faux flowers and textures - let's get messy and amke something beautiful together. In this video, you'll learn: • How to prep your canvas for heavy textures. • Techniques for blending acrylics with vintage ephemera. • Tips for adding that final "shabby" touch with wax and splatters.Down below I have the video tutorial for your convenience as well. Happy Crafting!

Then use your heat gun to dry the sprays and spread the colors around the canvas.

Next I used a stencil from 2025 August Mixed Media Kit. This stencil is perfect for the image I chose from the 2026 April Card Kit, Peacock image.
Place the stencil on top of the canvas and spray which ever color you would like. I then wiped of the stencil, laid it down in another area and spritz another color on and wiped clean the stencil. I kept doing this until I had my canvas the way I wanted it to look.

Here is what the finished canvas looks like.
To add a little more color and textures I used the doily stencil with some distress inks and inked the doily in a few places around the canvas.

Here's a photo of the finished look with using distress ink on the doily stencil.
Next I used the distress spritz sprays to color the chipboard dragonflies and the doilies from the kits.
I think these turned out so fantastic and what a great way you can use your Distress Spritz Sprays in another way. (See Video Tutorial for more details)
2026 March Scrapbook Kit. The dragons look great as I added some diamond glaze on top of them with a little spritz of the Antique Linen Distress Spritz (hard to see). I then added a button to the bottom of the flowers from my stash. I tucked the sprayed doily to the back of the peacock image. The large chipboard piece is from the Tres Jolie Chipboard Store and I inked with gold pigment ink.

I hope you found some inspiration from today's project. Creating this layered canvas was a fun way to try out the techniques, decorate the chipboard dragonflies, and use the Distress Spritz sprays from the April Mixed Media Kit. I hope you try out the layered techniques on your next project. Thank you so much for stopping by and crafting along with me today.
Until next time, keep curating those beautiful memories. ~Deb
